Our Parish

We are a parish of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, under the omophorion of His Eminence Nathanael, Metropolitan of Chicago.

With roots reaching back to the 1920s and a church building consecrated in 1940, St. John has a long history in Cedar Rapids. Today, our community serves about fifty families. While founded by immigrants from Greece and their families, today the make-up of the parish is quite diverse.

Everyone thirsty for the living water of God is welcome and invited to come and join us in worship and for fellowship. We especially invite those who are new to or interested in the Orthodox Christian faith and traditions to come and experience the treasures of our faith.

The vast majority of each service is in English.
