Our fall fundraiser is coming up next Sunday. This is an important fundraiser for our community and we need everyone's help to make it a success. A sign-up sheet is posted in the church hall for helping at the event. There are lots of positions available, and with everyone helping things will run very well. If you have not yet signed up, please do so this Sunday. Tickets for the event have been distributed; if you have not received any or need additional tickets, please see Michael Christodoulou.
We are looking for donations to cover the costs of the pastry ingredients. For a monetary donation, please make checks out to St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church and put “Pastry donation” as the memo. You may send in the donation or give it to treasurer Chris Paxton. If you would like to make the pastries, please see the sign-up sheet in the church hall. If you have any questions please see Regina Christodoulou. We are currently in need of two more trays of koulourakia (see sign-up sheet in hall).
Metropolitan Iakovos’s nameday dinner will take place on Thursday, October 23, in Palatine, IL, with proceeds benefitting the St. Iakovos Retreat Center and ministries of the clergy syndesmos. If you would like to attend or donate towards the cost of a table for St. John ($1000), please contact Fr. Peter.

Please continue to give comments to Fr. Peter regarding the bulletin format.
Please give Fr. Peter names of your loved ones for our weekly paraklesis so that we can pray for their health and salvation. If you have given him the names recently, think about your list on occasion and let him know of any changes. Please specify whether you would like all or some of these names to be published in our bulletin so that our parishioners may add them to their daily prayers.
The wedding of Rawlins Rhodes and Carrol Chipokas will be Saturday November 8th at 1:00 in the afternoon followed by a reception. They hope you will celebrate with them. The invitation is on the bulletin board for all who would like to attend.
For stewardship in 2014, we have $93,664 pledged so far, of the $100,500 budgeted/$118,715 needed for the 2014 budget. Please fill out a pledge form if you have not done so yet! Forms should be in the narthex.
When our Lord requires certain things of us, He does so that He may do certain things for us. He does not just demand that we serve Him or recognize Him by simply returning to Him that which is already His. But God’s divine plan is for us to work with Him, side-by-side. And when we do so, there flow blessings back to those who serve Him and recognize His complete rule over all of life. Our failure to co-operate with the Sovereign Lord will leave us without the chance for His blessings. If we do not carry out His plans as He has revealed them to us through His Holy Orthodox Church, we will deprive ourselves of the blessings that we need the most.
