Today is Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry Sunday. OCPM ministers to nearly 1,000 men and women who are in prison or who have recently been released. Many have embraced the Orthodox Faith, while others who were already Orthodox found their way back to The Church. We will be passing a tray to support the work of this ministry that has led five men to be tonsured Orthodox monks in prison and several others to become iconographers. There are currently over 300 Orthodox catechumens in jails and prisons across America.

Prosphora this week were prepared by Eleonora Rieck and Mary Moscrip.

Our recent Spring Dinner was a successful event, and we served about 640 meals. Thank you to all who sold tickets and worked at the event. Please remember to turn in any money collected from ticket sales as well as any unused tickets you still have.

The work of the Building Committee is mostly complete. We have worked hard for the last few months and over the next few weeks we will be holding informational meetings during fellowship to share our findings with you. Everyone is encouraged and invited to attend at least one of those meetings so that you become familiar with the options, have the opportunity to ask questions, and discuss this with fellow parishioners. If necessary we can schedule such an informational meeting at a different time, just let Fr. Peter know if you are unable to attend a Sunday one. We are hoping that we will have a special Parish Assembly at the end of May to decide on this issue. Everyone’s participation is welcomed and encouraged so this would be a good time to fill out a Stewardship form for 2015 if you haven’t done so already.

Please check the sign-up sheet in the hall for opportunities to sponsor the Sunday fellowship in 2015.

June seniors’ event: Tuesday, June 16, at PCI Medical Pavilion, 12 – 1pm. Witwer Healthy Aging Program: Rethink Your Drink

Registration is open for Camp St. George. Online registration for Fanari is also available. As we have done in the past few years, St. John’s will be providing financial assistance to help defer the cost for our youth attending. Leadership 100 funds are available for Fanari Camp in addition to our own scholarships, so if you would like your children to attend but finances may be a restriction, please let me know as soon as possible in order to apply for all available scholarships.

Stewardship corner

Every earthly work and connection must find its place within the great work of the Church. In the lives of the followers of Christ, there must be seen the same devotion, the same subjection to the will of God for every earthly attachment as was seen in Christ’s life. The claim of God on our lives must be first and foremost. For “He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me…” Christ’s life is our life. We must put forth untiring, self-sacrificing effort for the good of others. Christ offered His entire life as service to His Father on our behalf. He worked with untiring efforts to bring the straying into the fold. He spent hours, days, years preparing his disciples for both present and future service in the Kingdom. Have we followed in His footsteps? Have we ever exhausted ourselves in the service of Christ and His Holy Church? (from On Stewardship and the Orthodox Life on

If you haven’t done so yet, please fill out a pledge form for your 2015 stewardship! So far in 2015 we have $95,158 pledged out of $108,480 budgeted.
