Please continue to give Fr. Peter the names of your loved ones so that we can pray for their health and salvation at our weekly Paraklesis. Please specify whether you would like all or some of these names to be published in our bulletin so that our parishioners may add them to their daily prayers.

We are coming up to the Dormition Fast, when there are two opportunities to show our love for our fellow parishioners by sponsoring the fellowship. For stewardship in 2014, we have $93,664 pledged so far, of the $100,500 budgeted/$118,715 needed for the 2014 budget. Please fill out a pledge form if you have not done so yet! Forms should be in the narthex.

Our parish is once again offering $500 for assistance with summer camp costs, with a limit of $250 per child. Today is the deadline for applying for the scholarship. As in the past, the scholarship will function as a reimbursement to the family.

The VCS sign-up sheet is available downstairs. Please look and see where you may be able to help.

Registration for the Metropolis of Chicago Family Synaxis is open. The cost is $250/family if you register until July 31. For more information see http://www.gocfamilysynaxis.org/. This year’s theme: A Sincere Interior Life: The greatest gift to our children.

Fr. Fred and family invite you to the baptism of Harry Demetrios Shaheen on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 5:30 pm at St. George Orthodox Church. Dinner reception to follow in the Michael G. Nassif Education and Cultural Center. RSVP: venetias@hotmail.com

Sunday, July 20, is the feast of St. Elias. Our parish has been invited for Vespers at St. Elias in Dubuque on Saturday, July 19, beginning at 5:00 p.m. There will be no Vespers at St. John that evening.

Horizons Family Services volunteers: Lord, when did we see you hungry? Fr. Peter has taken the plunge into volunteering for Meals on Wheels, a ministry of Horizon Family Services. Volunteers as young as 10 may participate in preparing meals, and those who are able to deliver meals have flexible opportunities to serve our neighbors in the Cedar Rapids community. Please consider this your calling to serve!

A big thank you to everyone who has met with Jerry Minetos, as he conducts a planning study for our parish. If you were unable to meet with Jerry, you can still participate in the process through an online survey available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SJBCedarRapids. The deadline for submitting your questionnaire is Friday, August 1. Your comments to Jerry will be held in the strictest of confidence.
