The prosfora this week were provided by Nadina Geistkemper and Tula Margellos.
Don’t miss the opportunity to donate towards the cost for all the beautiful flowers that are used in services throughout this Lenten period. The sign-up sheet is in the church hall.
Next Sunday, April 13, is the last day for our Sunday school students to bring in their coin boxes for the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC). Total collected $204.85. We need $95.15 to reach our goal of $300. Keep it going, kids.
Wednesday, April 9, after the Presanctified Liturgy the Ladies’ Philoptochos will host the last Lenten meal (potluck). We wish to thank everyone who has supported the Ladies’ Philoptochos in their efforts to raise monies for various charities during this Lenten season.
Sunday school families (11 total) are asked to check the sign-up sheet for the Palm Sunday Luncheon in the church hall. Help is needed to prepare foods, set up, and clean up. This is our only fundraiser for the school. Thank you for your consideration.
Don’t forget to RSVP for the Palm Sunday Luncheon. This helps determine how much fish to buy and food to prepare. The last day to RSVP on the sign-up sheet is TODAY, or you may call Maria at 319-373-0777 by April 11.
Young ladies aged 6-12 are eligible to stand as myrrh-bearers on Holy Friday night. The church will provide you with a basket. You must wear a white dress, white shoes, white tights, and white sweater—no bare shoulders. Please sign up in the church hall by Palm Sunday (April 13).
The annual egg hunt on Pascha needs individually wrapped candy and plastic eggs. These items may be dropped off in the box on top of the coat rack no later than April 18.
St. George is organizing a pre-teen and teen retreat this Friday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday following services. St. John’s youth are invited to attend.
Mark your calendars: the Spring Grecian Dinner is coming up on Sunday, May 4. This is an important fundraiser for our parish, and we need everyone’s help to sell tickets and volunteer for a successful event. Tickets will be distributed today. If you haven’t already please sign up to help at the event.
Thank you to those who have signed up to bake for the Spring Dinner. We are still in need of volunteers for baking 1 pan of galaktoboureko, 5 pans of lemon cake and 4 pans of karidopita. For additional information please contact Regina (319-804-9665).
If you want to make a donation to offset ingredient costs for Spring Dinner pastries, make a check to St. John’s with “Pastry donation” in the memo. Thank you for your support.
The sign-up for fellowship is posted in the hall. There are still plenty of Sundays needing a sponsor.
We have an opportunity to raise funds for our church by working at a concession stand at events at the US Cellular Center. If you are interested in participating , please utilize the signup sheet in the hall.
The seniors’ tour of the DoubleTree was rescheduled for Monday, April 21. We will meet with Karen in the first-floor lobby of the DoubleTree at 11:00 a.m., tour the hotel, and have lunch at the 350 (on the top floor). Please contact Angie if you plan to attend so that Karen can make reservations for lunch.
Stewardship: We have $92,104 pledged so far, of the $100,500 budgeted/$118,715 needed for 2014. It takes the efforts of all of us to support our community. Please fill out a pledge form if you have not done so yet! Forms are available in the narthex and in the church hall.
