TODAY 
  • Calendars for 2013 are available at the back of the church. Please return unwanted 2012 calendars to the box outside Fr. Peter’s office. The Sunday School will be using these.
  • Middle school at 9:00 a.m. Preschool through fifth grade after Holy Communion. High school classes will be held on Wednesday beginning on January 9, 2013, at 5:00 p.m.
  • The Sunday School children will come upstairs for the Blessing of the Waters Service and Vasilopita Service.
  • Feast day celebrations begin with the Cutting of the Vasilopita and the luncheon. The Vasilopitas are prepared by our Philoptochos ladies and all the proceeds will go to support The Saint Basil Academy, our national not-for-profit philanthropic center of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese which provides love, shelter, food, education, protection and a home for her orphans, children of chronically ill or destitute parents, or children from broken homes. The recommended donation for the luncheon is $5/adult and $3/child.

  • 9:00 a.m. Orthros, 10:00 a.m. Divine Liturgy for St. John the Forerunner and Baptist
Tuesday, January 8
  • 5:30 p.m. Children’s Greek school
  • 6:30 p.m. Adults’ Greek school
  • 6:30 p.m. Philoptochos outing at the Outback Steakhouse 
Wednesday, January 9 
  • 5:00 p.m. Church school class for high schoolers 
Saturday, January 12 
  • 3:30 p.m. Outdoor blessing of the waters (1st Avenue bridge in downtown Cedar Rapids)
  • 5:00 p.m. Great Vespers at St. George in Cedar Rapids 
Sunday, January 13 
  • 9:00 a.m. Orthros; 10:00 a.m. Divine Liturgy
  • 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. All-youth sledding at Bowman Woods Elementary School 
The fellowship sign-up sheet for 2013 is posted by the kitchen. Please stop by, choose a Sunday, and sponsor one of our beautiful gatherings following the services. 

We are still looking for a few donations to cover the cost of the poinsettias. Please contact Michael or Fr. Peter if you would like to help. 

If you have not filled out a pledge form for 2013, please do so as soon as possible. 

His Grace Bp. Demetrios will be with us for the celebration of our parish altar feast. He will be here for both Vespers on tonight and the services tomorrow.

As 2012 is drawing to a close, please remember to fulfill your financial stewardship to St. John as soon as possible. Donations dated in 2012 AND received by January 6 will be included in the 2012 reports
