Bring blankets, towels, and flotation devices in case you’ll want to swim in the lake. We will have two tandem kayaks, each fitting one adult and two children; there are also paddle boats and canoes to rent. All food and plates/napkins will be provided by the church so there is no cost associated with the fun outing for our hard working Sunday School kids. We do need someone to bring a portable grill. ·       Mon, July 19 at 6:00pm in Dubuque – METROPOLIS LEADERSHIP SEMINAR – Parish ministry leaders and anyone interested in coming needs to tell Michael Christodoulou or so we coordinate rides and be ready to leave our church by 4:30pm so we make it in time for 6:00pm Hierarchal Vespers at St. Elias Church in Dubuque, IA.

·       Tue, July 20 – ST. ELIAS - 8:00am Orthros & 9:00am Divine Liturgy at St. George Church in Cedar Rapids. It is our turn to joing St. George in worship; Fr. Ciprian looks forward to hopefully seeing all our weekday regulars at St. George for this Feast Day.

·       Tue, July 20 at 6:00pm-8:00pm - LADIES' NIGHT OUT (Mini Golf & Dinner) Organized by Philoptochos for all the ladies of our Parish Family -  Please arrive at the Airport National Public Golf and Range (3001 Wright Bros. Blvd., Cedar Rapids) by 6:00pm for the Mini Golf Game. The expense for mini golf will be around $5 or $6. Supper will follow the game of Mini Golf. The place to eat hasn't been decided yet. ·         PICTORIAL DIRECTORY & CHURCH DATABASE UPDATE – By now, everyone should have received in the mail a one-page letter with instructions and a form on the backside of the letter. The instruction are simple and the form is short; please COMPLETE THE FORM ACCURATELY and make sure we have it in hand, NO LATER THAN THU, JULY 15. You can mail it or bring it with you to church next Sunday. This will not only allow us to print only wanted and accurate information in the Directory, but it will also enable us update our Parishioner Household Database.

·         SUMMER SERVICE HOURS – ORTHOS AT 8:00AM & DIVINE LITURGY AT 9:00AM. UPDATE: Though our Sunday morning attendance doesn’t seem to have suffered as a result of the earlier service time, I have just been informed that it is more difficult for mothers (parents) to get the children ready by the 9:00am Divine Liturgy. Please use the month of July to tell Fr. Ciprian whether you think we should change the service times to 8:30am (Orthros) and 9:30am (Divine Liturgy) for the month of August. We don’t want this change to turn out to be a real burden for any of our parishioners, adults and children alike.

·         NATIONAL CLERGY-LAITY CONGRESS – It’s that year and that time of the year again when the Hierarchs, Priest, and parishioners meet together to make important decisions for the National Church. Fr. Ciprian has been granted special permission from the hierarchs to not attend this year’s Congress so as to use the time to analyze the data he collected for his dissertation research and write up the results. To accomplish this task, Fr. Ciprian might be out of town for part of this week, but will return on Saturday, July 10^th and Great Vespers will be s  erved at 5:30pm. For emergencies, call Michael Christodoulou.

·       APOSTLES’ FAST – May 31 to June 29 – The fast to Apostles Peter and Paul is not as strict (fish is allowed on most days) and ends on June 29. Fasting details about each day can be seen on our wall calendar or the Archdiocese website. Observe it as best as you can.

·       FELLOWSHIP – Mary Harker has offered to sponsor Fellowship next Sunday, but there are still openings. If you are not yet on the Fellowship schedule for this year, please consider sponsoring an upcoming open Sunday and sign your name on the schedule.

·       THE MESSENGER – Regina thanks all of you who have submitted your parts for the July-August Messenger and is feverishly working to wrap it up and send to the printers within the next couple of days. Bring your own Brown Bag Lunch - Romanian dessert will be provided. Some seniors from St. George might join us as well.

There might even be some owl calling. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Cost: $2.50/ adult, $1/child 16 and under or $5/family. ·    GREEK SUMMER SCHOOL - "Conversational Greek and Greek Dancing" – This 90 minute class will teach you common Greek phrases and Greek Dancing. We will meet EVERY WEDNESDAY (June 9, 2010 to July 28, 2010) from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The cost of the book is $16 (adults) and $14 (children). If interested, sign your name on the bulletin board or talk to one of the Greek School Staff.
·    SENIOR CITIZENS’ EVENT – Edie’s Birthday Party – Friday, May 28 – The Seniors’ Group will meet at the Brown Deer Country Club for lunch. After lunch we will walk/drive to Edie and Ken's house for Cake and Drinks to further celebrate the Birthday of Edie Yerington - our Senior Citizens' Group Coordinator.

·    TODAY – HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY – Our Sunday School will be handing out flowers to all the mothers (and ladies) of our church after the Divine Liturgy.
·    SPRING GRECIAN DINNER – SUN, MAY 2, 2010 – Thank you to all who helped at the Spring Grecian Dinner, especially those who signed up in advance. We served about 730 meals which means it was a successful dinner. We have olives, feta cheese, gyros and some pastries for sale. Please return all income from ticket sales and all left over tickets as soon as possible.
·    TULIP FESTIVAL AND GREAT VESPERS IN PELLA, IA – In spite of the intimidating weather yesterday, our group exceeding 15 persons still had plenty of fun and enjoyed themselves.
·    LIFE LESSONS FROM SUNDAY GOSPEL READINGS – Every Tuesday at 5:30pm-6:30pm.
·    SENIORS’ EVENT – Wed, May 12 - Musical Performance (“Bye Bye Birdie”) at Jefferson High School at 1:00pm. After show we will meet for fellowship over coffee at Panera by Westdale Mall.
·    GREEK SCHOOL – Every Wednesday – Children’s Classes at 4:30pm; Adult Class at 5:30pm.
·    HOLY ASCENSION OF OUR LORD – Thu, May 13 – 9am Orthros & 10:00am Divine Liturgy
·    GREAT VESPERS & ALTAR BOY TRAINING – Every Saturday at 5:30pm.
·    CATECHISM – If anyone is interested in learning more about the Orthodox Faith, please speak with Fr. Ciprian about joining the group who is presently meeting for Catechism weekly.
